Sister Christine shared a testimony she titled “Out of the Ashes I Rise.” She speaks about a difficult upbringing, the long walk out of it, and the peace God brought her into. If you are in a hard season of your own, her story will encourage you.
The Crucible of Early Hardship
Sister Christine’s story begins in South Trinidad, where she faced a challenging childhood living with a stepmother who frequently blamed and physically disciplined her.
- A Stolen Childhood: While other children enjoyed their holidays, she spent her time cooking, cleaning, and baking.
- Household Dynamics: She recalls her stepmother tying the house keys to the center of a Bible with a string, pausing her reading only to administer discipline.
- A Glimmer of Hope: Despite these heavy burdens, a breakthrough arrived when she attended a youth camp, which eventually led to a diploma in bookbinding and steady employment.
Facing the Wilderness Alone
Just as life appeared to stabilize with a partner and two young children, she was unexpectedly left to raise her family as a single mother when her partner migrated to the United States and stopped providing support.
- Poverty and Isolation: She endured sleepless nights, intense loneliness, and days without money or food for her children.
- Health Battles: Severe health challenges arose, requiring numerous tests and blood investigations. She attributes her ultimately negative test results to divine healing.
- Surviving Judgment: Much like the biblical figure Job, she faced judgment and mockery from those around her, but she survived the humiliation by leaning entirely on her faith.
Rising as a “Designer’s Original”
At the heart of Sister Christine’s message is the restoring power of faith. God exchanges ashes for beauty and mourning for joy. She came through deep loneliness and despair, and she now sees herself not as a carbon copy but as a designer’s original, molded by the Creator into a vessel of honor. Her story is a reminder that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
